Heart in Hand
Gingerbread Sheds
Oak Doors with Key
Stained Glass Mandalas
I decided to make stained glass mandalas as I can create intricate patterns with lead & glass paint which in turn look like mini rose windows like you'd find in gothic cathedrals.
St. Margaret
This St. Margaret panel was inspired by a 14th century stained glass window of St. Margaret.
I love the mythology surrounding dragons used in medieval art.
In this case the poor beast represents the devil.
The story goes that St. Margaret of Antioch was the daughter of a pagan priest. Her mother died in childbirth so she was brought up by a Christian nurse. Embracing Christianity herself, Margaret was disowned by her father. When she refused the hand of a Roman governor (he wanted her to denounce Christianity) she was tortured. She was swallowed up by the Devil in the guise of a dragon, however, the cross she wore "tickled" the throat of the dragon & she was coughed up!
